VANEL always gets involved and this year is no exception. We’ve got a couple of training courses scheduled especially during the week and we’ll be sharing news and resources about trusteeship throughout the week. Here’s a quick rundown of what we’ve got planned…

“Could you be a Trustee?” Short workshops on Monday 12th November at VANEL. If you need to know more about what being a Trustee is all about then this session will be for you.

If you’re new on board as a Trustee (or need to catch up to speed) then our “Induction and Refresher Training for Trustees” on Tuesday 13th November (pm) is the workshop for you.

Contact Karl to book on either of these sessions. You may not realise that we tweet about governance and trustee issues too – so take a look at @aboutgovernance on Twitter and start following us. We’ve been quiet for a while but we’ll get a lot more tweety during Trustees’ Week.

Our (mostly) weekly “Governance weekly” column in the VANEL e-bulletin will be a bumper edition next week full of ideas, tips, resources and support related to Trusteeship.

Remember too that we are on the lookout for new Trustees. VANEL didn’t attend this year (and I’m hazarding a guess that probably no-one from our membership was down there this week either), but there’s always plenty of feedback on social media from these events to help understand the themes being discussed on the day. Here is probably a good place to catch up. Topics included data, digital communications, artificial intelligence, cyber security and plenty of case studies of putting digital technology solutions into practice. There’s also some thoughts about how “Charity leaders are taking digital to the next level” here which is worth a read.

But VANEL is here to help. We have quite some experience in the application of technology and all things digital to work and projects in our sector. So if you’re a member organisation and think you need technology advice, guidance or support then we’d like to start a conversation with you to see how we can help.

We are especially interested in website development, digital inclusion, free technology resources, project management, CRM systems, e-newsletters, app development and cyber security. Got questions? Start by talking with Karl (karl@vanel.org.uk, 01472 361043).

Member news

Do you have a client, beneficiary or friend who has limited skills with technology which is causing them problems accessing benefits (including universal credit), doing job searches or other necessary tasks? West Marsh Community Centre is hosting a service giving people access to computers and direct one to one help and support to learn how to use technology to manage these tasks. Andy from VANEL is at the community centre every week and can help provide training, advice and support around technology to help people manage their benefits, upload CVs, do job searches, manage their money online, do online training or access many other government and public services. There’s such a need for people to do everything online now that if someone doesn’t have access to a computer or the internet or lacks the necessary understanding and skills then they are at a distinct disadvantage. Andy has been helping people around West Marsh to get past these technical problems so they can do what they need to do. If you know someone who you think might benefit from this service and they can get across to the community centre in West Marsh then please contact the centre direct (01472 269230 speak to Neil or Anita) or contact Andy at VANEL (andy@vanel.org.uk, 01472 231123) and you can then make an appointment.
