The Project Leaders they support have got a lot of summer events underway and the team are busy encouraging, supporting and volunteering with them.

Last week was one of the most ambitious events to date – six events in six days led by 18 year old project leader Mica Armstrong. Mica is a Groundwork ambassador and organised the six events using their structure but using local volunteers, local support and local funding. The six events taking place across Grimsby and Cleethorpes were a great success. Youth Leadership Worker Victoria has written up a full story of the week’s events on our blog – you can read it here. This week was a huge effort for all involved but demonstrated the value of volunteering, of connecting the community and mostly of the skills (and commitment) Mica has learned that allowed her to tackle such a programme of activities. Well done to Mica and others

Read the full story here and there’s even more photos on the IGNITE Facebook page here.

Dan and Jean-Louis from the IGNITE team were also keeping fit recently supporting Andy Green from Counting Hope with the NCS connected charity football tournament down at West Marsh Community Centre. A number of BLB volunteers have been fully trained up and are now out and about across rural parts of North and North East Lincolnshire carrying out Safe and Well checks for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service. If you see one of the new BLB branded vans out on the road give them a wave – it will be a volunteer out doing their checks. BLB volunteers have also been involved with the RiverClean events down at the Freshney helping to coordinate other local volunteers to keep the river free of rubbish. And at the recent Tape 2 Tape 10km run on 22nd July we had a number of BLB volunteers providing marshalling support to the organisers. Over 40 ex-emergency service people have now connected to the Blue Lights Brigade programme and most of them are volunteering in a wide range of roles across the area. The volunteering opportunities work well for both the individual and the organisation being supported so watch out for our future stories about how BLB volunteering is impacting our communities.

If you have contact with people looking for volunteering opportunities then don’t forget to check out our up to date opportunities list on the VANEL website here.

Member News

The most recent newsletter from Culture Works for August is out – you can read it online here.
