{"id":18992,"date":"2018-04-13T09:22:18","date_gmt":"2018-04-13T08:22:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/va\/?p=18992"},"modified":"2018-04-13T09:22:18","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T08:22:18","slug":"the-new-helpline-for-charities-preparing-for-the-new-gdpr-data-protection-rules-is-now-up-and-running","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/va\/2018\/04\/the-new-helpline-for-charities-preparing-for-the-new-gdpr-data-protection-rules-is-now-up-and-running\/","title":{"rendered":"The new Helpline for Charities preparing for the new GDPR Data Protection Rules is now up and running"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><strong>The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)<\/strong> will come into <span class=\"__postbox-detected-content __postbox-detected-date\">force on 25 May 2018,<\/span> applying to \u2018controllers\u2019 and \u2018processors of personal data\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ico.org.uk\/\">The Information Commissioner\u2019s Office (ICO)<\/a> has set up the helpline to help charities and other small organisations comply with strengthened rules around personal data, as well as accountability and transparency for those holding such data.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">Perhaps most significantly for the fundraising arms of charities, it will no longer be acceptable to rely on \u2018implied consent\u2019 when contacting donors or potential donors. Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham, said: \u201cAll organisation have to get ready for the new data protection<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">rules, but we recognise that the <span class=\"__postbox-detected-content __postbox-detected-date\">5.4<\/span> million small organisations in the UK face particular challenges. \u201cSmall organisations want to be ready when the new law comes into force in <span class=\"__postbox-detected-content __postbox-detected-date\">May 2018,<\/span> but they often struggle<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\">to know where to start.
