If you read our weekly “Governance Weekly”<\/a> news articles you’ll see we often announce our “Induction and Refresher Training for Trustees”<\/strong> course there.\u00a0 But for those of you who skip Governance Weekly here’s a run down of our next session.<\/p>\n

“Induction and Refresher Training for Trustees”
\nTuesday 13th June 2017, 3pm-5pm
\nat VANEL offices, Bargate, Grimsby<\/p>\n

\u00a310 per person or \u00a315 per person if your organisation is not a Member or Friend of VANEL.
\nIf you are aged 18-30 and a trustee or committee member connected to a VANEL member organisation then you can attend for free (but please still book on).<\/p>\n

Overview of the session<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are some things that new Trustees just need to know. And over time, even Trustees who have served for a while can do with a refresher to remind them what they\u2019ve perhaps forgotten.<\/p>\n

So our short, two hour \u201cInduction and Refresher\u201d<\/strong> training sessions are excellent for both brand new trustees joining a board for the first time, and for trustees who perhaps need that refresh.<\/p>\n

The Charity Commission outlines the roles and responsibilities of all Trustees in \u201cThe Essential Trustee\u201d. Every trustee should read this \u2013 perhaps even before they join a board. And guides such as \u201cThe Good Trustee\u201d Guide are the \u2018encyclopaedia\u2019 that you need to refer to. But we hope our face-to-face group approach to bringing you up to speed is the easiest way to go.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll cover all the basics. What you must do, what you should do, what you shouldn\u2019t do. What your responsibilities and obligations are. How you should behave. How you should get support. How you can develop. How you can work as part of your team. What regulations should you refer to. How can you grow into your role. What are good practices. And much more.<\/p>\n

Over the course of two hours we\u2019ll help you to understand the role of a trustee or committee member a bit better, so you know what you should and shouldn\u2019t do, how you need to behave and what you need to do to be effective.<\/p>\n

This short, introductory course is a great start for anyone joining a board for the first time (or needing a refresher). If you\u2019ve been in the role for a while, then hopefully you already know what you\u2019re supposed to be doing!<\/p>\n

During the two hour training course we will help Trustees learn:<\/p>\n

what they must do
\nwhat they should do
\nwhat they could do
\nhow to behave
\nhow to be useful to the organisation
\nhow to learn and develop themselves and gain from trusteeship
\nhow to get support
\nhow to work as an individual trustee but also as part of the team
