VANEL

Do you make a difference?

A provocative article this week.

As a volunteer trustee, if you stopped attending your board or  committee meetings & stopped any other involvement with your organisation – would anyone miss you?

I mean, would the organisation suffer? Take a step backwards? Stop moving forward?

Would board meetings be less productive? Would less be planned or achieved?

Would staff or volunteers in the organisation notice a difference now, next month, next year, if you were playing no part in the strategic work of the board?

A tough question.  But if you ask yourself it you might start checking up on why you actually are on that board at all.  What skills and experience and perspective are you bringing along.  What do you contribute to the conversations and discussions and decisions?  What style do you bring?

If there’s even a partially negative response here, then perhaps it’s time to change this.  Do you need new skills? Or just to engage more (or differently).  Can you make yourself valuable?

Charities and voluntary/community groups need every angle these days to ensure they survive, thrive and propser.  Are you contributing the very best you can?

If you think you (or the board) need support, then get in touch with VANEL.  We can try to support you.

Over to you.
