The land slowly developed joining the communities together, and the main route &#8211; Grimsby Road &#8211; was built up. In those early days Grimsby Road was a wide avenue with trees and tramlines as can be seen in the image(s) below.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"869\" height=\"860\" class=\"wp-image-647\" src=\"https:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/greencleethorpes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/gyrd1936.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/greencleethorpes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/gyrd1936.jpg 869w, https:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/greencleethorpes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/gyrd1936-300x297.jpg 300w, https:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/greencleethorpes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/gyrd1936-768x760.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 869px) 100vw, 869px\" \/>\r\n<figcaption>Welcome to Cleethorpes along Grimsby Road in 1936<\/figcaption>\r\n<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Grimsby Road is still wide and tree-lined in a way, but along its length is a very mixed affair of appearance.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>A NELC initiative announced in 2020 will work along Grimsby Road and make effort to work with premises owners to improve the appearance of this main route into Cleethorpes.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nelincs.gov.uk\/taking-action-against-neglected-buildings-along-areas-key-route\/\">Read the original announcement about Operation Gateway here<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Operation Gateway<\/strong> will work in four stages and is now underway. We\u2019re particularly interested in the stages that go through Sidney Sussex and Croft Baker wards until they reach Issacs Hill.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This is an opportunity for greening the street scene too and we hope that some planting and natural features will be incorporated as the project proceeds.
