Chapmans Pond

Chapman’s Pond is a large pond off Suggitt’s Lane.  It is the last visible evidence for the claypit of Chapman’s Brick and Tile Works.

The pond began to appear in 1904 as the diggings breached the Wolds aquifier and started admitting fresh water.  The inflow was kept under control with pumps but these were switched off during the war years and eventually the pit filled up and was never drained again.

It is now private land.

A few years ago, Big Local North Cleethorpes took drone footage of the pond which you can see here.

There is a Facebook page dedicated to Chapman’s Pond here.
