VANEL has long championed the principle that charities and voluntary or community groups should well run, managed and governed.\u00a0 Whatever size the group, the role of the board or committee in steering a safe course is crucial.\u00a0 But it can be a huge responsibility and is often quite complex.<\/p>\n
Over the years, VANEL has provided a range of support services to help our Members and Friends develop their governance techniques.\u00a0 We ran a successful Trustee Network for a couple of years and a number of our staff have worked closely with groups, boards and committees to help them develop themselves.<\/p>\n
We\u2019re continuing to develop ways to support groups and in the New Year we\u2019ll share more information.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, the Executive Board of Trustees at VANEL has been leading by example.\u00a0 We\u2019ve reviewed our governance practices and approaches against the national Code of Good Governance<\/strong>, and this has allowed us to learn what we do well already and also what we need to work on to be excellent at this.<\/p>\n There will be regular entries on our Governance blog<\/a> now, so if you are interested in how your organisation can work on governance development, then follow our blog.<\/p>\n“Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire (VANEL) is governed by an Executive Committee of Trustees who currently work to and comply with the principles defined in the National Code of Good Governance which is endorsed by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO).\u201d<\/strong>
