You\u2019ll have probably already seen the news that Cleethorpes has a Blue Flag beach once again. This is great news for the resort, but it\u2019s also a testament to the hard work of many local partner organisations and many, many volunteers.<\/p>\n

VANEL, our IGNITE team, and many local volunteers organised through our projects have all played a part in this. Through various litter picks and events at the beach we\u2019ve helped contribute to the beach tidiness. You\u2019ll not be surprised about VANEL\u2019s involvement if you\u2019ve watched our support for various environmental issues over the past few years including our IGNITE led Pipes Away project, our litter picks and river cleans, our association with Anglian Water, our support for World Oceans Day and more. We\u2019ve very pleased that this helps in some way to getting the blue flag back to Cleethorpes beach.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re not claiming full responsibility of course – it\u2019s been a huge local effort from everyone. So here\u2019s IGNITE team leader Jenny Hodson at the press shoot for the blue flag. Read on for the full press release.<\/p>\n

The Blue Flag is flying high once again in Cleethorpes as the resort\u2019s Central beach, from Wonderland through to the leisure centre, has secured the prestigious international award for water quality.<\/p>\n

Cleethorpes Central beach joins the country\u2019s very best beaches, from popular holiday spots to quiet, more hidden-away spots. What unites them all is knowing that they are clean, safe and meet the highest environmental standards, as well as the tough international bathing water quality standards.<\/p>\n

In addition to securing the 2019 Blue Flag status, Cleethorpes has also achieved two Seaside Awards for beaches beyond the leisure centre and at Humberston Fitties for their fantastic facilities and cleanliness.<\/p>\n

This year environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy is presenting 208 awards to England\u2019s very best beaches, including 71 international Blue Flags and 137 Seaside Awards, with 52 beaches achieving both awards.<\/p>\n

Along with our year-round projects to protect beaches and waterways, and working with the community to keep the beach clean, today\u2019s announcement is part of our ongoing commitment to make sure Cleethorpes stays as one of the best beaches in the UK for everyone to enjoy.<\/p>\n

Cllr Callum Procter, new Cabinet member for tourism said: \u201cI am delighted with the news that Cleethorpes has once again been given this prestigious award. It reflects the hard work and dedication of staff to maintain consistently high standards.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe award act as a guarantee to tourists that the beach they are visiting meets international water quality tests and that the facilities are well managed safe and welcoming.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He added: \u201cI would like to extend a special thank you to everyone who has worked hard to help us achieve these awards. So many community groups and council departments contribute, along with the many facilities in and around the resort that make it such a pleasant place to visit.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cOne of our aims as council is to increase visitor numbers to Cleethorpes and this prestigious award can only strengthen this objective .\u201d<\/em><\/mark><\/p>\n
