A maximum of £500 per child for up to five children can be applied for.

The money was originally raised by the community of East Marsh decades ago as part of the work of the Riby Square Resource Centre Holiday Fund, but some of it was not spent and it has laid dormant – until now.

The local authority has released the funds and they are being administered by VANEL, (Voluntary Action North East Lincolnshire), which is dealing with applications and handling enquiries. Andy’s, which has just celebrated its 18th anniversary, is the first organisation to successfully receive the funding. It hopes the remaining monies required will be raised soon, with families already looking forward to the break.

Play and Activities Co-ordinator Tracy Wilson, said: “This will mean that these five families can have time together. It is important for the parents, that they meet like-minded people while the children are having fun in a safe environment and get the chance to try things they would not otherwise do.”

Cllr Wheatley encouraged other groups to apply to the Fund: “As councillors, when we are able to deliver things like this, it makes everything worthwhile. This is about helping real people in real situations to have happy and real holidays together and there are so many groups and organisations out there that could benefit from this.”

More details on how to apply can be found at www.vanel.org.uk Or for further details contact: richard@vanel.org.uk or telephone: 01472 361043 and ask to speak to Richard Wendel-Jones or Paula Grant.

FIVE families, who are currently being supported by Andy’s – the region’s only children’s hospice – will be enjoying a trip to Center Parcs, thanks to a donation from a North East Lincolnshire holiday fund.
