Always worth a read but this issue in particular has a useful roundup of the key news from 2017.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncvo.org.uk\/2017\/12\/14\/governance-round-up-december-2017\/\">Take a read here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll repeat their most key summary points here:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the publication of the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncvo.org.uk\/2017\/03\/27\/governance-fundamental-to-stronger-charities\/\">House of Lords report into stronger charities<\/a> in March which highlighted governance as a key priority and made a set of recommendations for charities, infrastructure bodies and the commission<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.ncvo.org.uk\/2017\/11\/13\/taken-on-trust-research\/\">the most significant research into trusteeship in many years<\/a> in November, which highlighted some of the challenges around board diversity and insight into trustees understanding of their roles<\/li>\n<li>the overhaul and launch of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.charitygovernancecode.org\/en\">new Charity Governance Code<\/a> in July which now provides a clear set of aspirational standards for good governance in charities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Training<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have a number of courses scheduled and all the details are <a href=\"http:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/va\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/GovernanceTrainingVANELJan-Mar18.pdf\">Download the flyer containing the details of all the GOVERNANCE and TRUSTEESHIP training here.<\/a>. The courses include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cCould you be a Trustee?\u201d<\/strong> Suited to people thinking of becoming a trustee for the first time<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cInduction and Refresher Training for Trustees\u201d<\/strong> for those who are new into the role (or need to be brought back up to speed)<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cFinances for non-financial trustees\u201d<\/strong> because every trustee needs to know something about the financial health of their charity<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cBetter Boards: using the Code to review and improve your governance\u201d<\/strong> for individual trustees and the whole board to learn how to improve and develop good practice in your governance approach<\/p>\n<p>And <strong>\u201cTechnology for Trustees\u201d<\/strong> because the level of benefit being gained from the digital and technical revolution within charities is still extremely poor.<\/p>\n<p>So we have something for everyone.
