The NCVO monthly Governance roundup<\/strong> for September<\/span> is out on the NCVO blog. Read it just here<\/span><\/a>. This month there\u2019s some comment about the continuing saga with Kids Company governance, information about quicker conversions to CIOs, comments about the Lobbying Act and some news from the Charity Commission. Have a quick read.<\/span><\/p>\n

National Trustees\u2019 Week<\/strong> is getting closer. This year it is 13th-19th November<\/span><\/a> and VANEL will be organising relevant activities during the week. That week is also the NCVO Trustees Conference<\/a> down in London and I\u2019ll be reporting at and after the event to share national headlines around trusteeship and governance good practices. Later in the week – on Wednesday<\/strong><\/span> the 15th<\/span> VANEL will hold a \u201cGovernance Challenge Workshop\u201d<\/strong> at our offices when any trustee\/committee member from our Member or Friend organisations is welcome to come along to look at current challenges around voluntary sector governance, best practices, approaches, support and future thinking. More details<\/a> over the next few weeks. Place will be limited and booking required (free to attend). Speak to me (Karl) for more information.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m always talking about how Trustee Boards\/Committees need to lead their organisations to understand and benefit from digital technologies. So again here is a recent article<\/a> on the Guardian Voluntary Sector Leadership Network which shares a new Digital Maturity Tool that you can\/should use to review where your organisation sits with its digital skills.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Third Sector Digital Maturity Matrix is a free tool developed by the Digital Team at Breast Cancer Care to assess the current maturity of a not-for-profit organisation’s digital capability, compared with its desired target state. Through a simple self-assessment, you can understand where your organisation needs to invest to reach digital excellence.<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m about to run through the tool myself for VANEL and I think it\u2019s well worth all charities having a go to decide what actions would be relevant to improve their own digital capabilities. Take a look.<\/span><\/p>\n
