How many young(er) Trustees do you have on your board or committee? Chances are not many. Getting younger people involved in governance is a important trend currently and I’ve just read this article from CASE Insurance entitled “The Rise of the Young, Digital Trustee”. It’s a personal perspective on why young, digital volunteers can make a difference on ageing boards and can make a real difference for charities going through their digital transformation projects. Have a read here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As a Trustee or as a board you may not be the ones writing and submitting funding applications for your charity. So this might not directly apply to you. But oversight of the funding applications you collectively make and ensuring they are the best they can possibly be certainly is part of your role. So this article on the Guardian Voluntary Sector Network is worth a read. It shares advice on the best ways to get your own funding application to the ‘top of the pile’. Always useful to get this sort of advice, so have a read here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The VANEL Trustees Network<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our Trustee Network has existing in one form or another for many years now. Some years we’ve had a formal training and meeting programme. One year we had regular ‘Tea and Trustees’ get togethers. Due to lack of funding we’ve been quiet for the past year or so, but on 1st September a new version of our Network starts up online.<\/p>\n

The Network is a way for Trustees and Committee Members to get support from us at VANEL and from other like minded Trustees. It’s a network of your peers that meets online in a private website (www.vanel.org.uk\/aboutgovernance<\/a>).<\/p>\n

There is a daily blog with ideas, information and resources. It provides you with a way to get involved in discussions about these daily articles or to ask your own questions, make suggestions, propose ideas, answer other people and generally get involved in improving yourself and your board with other Trustees.<\/p>\n

The VANEL Trustee Network is ONLY open to those involved in the management or governance of VANEL Member or Friend organisations. If your organisation is in membership of VANEL then you can join in the Network for free. If your organisation is not a member then you have two options – individual membership (\u00a315 per year) or get your organisation to connect to VANEL for \u00a325 per year for the whole committee\/board to get involved.<\/p>\n

To get started either contact karl@vanel.org.uk<\/a> and I’ll set you up an account on the website or register yourself on the site (after which I’ll have to authorise your access and let you in!)<\/p>\n

More news from the Network on a weekly basis from now on in “Governance Weekly”, but you need to be joined up to get involved in the conversation and make the most of the resources.<\/p>\n
