Complemented by our monthly &#8220;View from the Top&#8221; e-newsletter (Trustee Network members only), our &#8220;aboutgovernance&#8221; online discussion space for leaders and trustees and our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/aboutgovernance\">@aboutgovernance<\/a> Twitter feed.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>&#8220;The looming crisis in charity trustee recruitment&#8221;<\/b> is a hard-hitting report out this week from Getting on Board, an organisation which encourages more people to become trustees.<\/p>\n<p>Worth a read (get it <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gettingonboard.org\/news\/4585134114\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>). The subtitle is &#8220;How poor trustee practices threaten to damage the effectiveness of UK charities&#8221;. We all want charities to be effective and beneficial to our communities, so it&#8217;s important that trustee recruitment works well. Yet we all know that in reality it&#8217;s a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>The report simplifies down to 4 possible solutions which we should all look at closely to see how this can work for our organisations. In essence these solutions include:<br \/>\n. Increased awareness of the role of trustees<br \/>\n. Improve and update charity recruitment practices overall and learn from good practice<br \/>\n. Develop clearer &#8216;pathways to trusteeship&#8217;<br \/>\n. Acknowledge issues around diversity and commit to strategies to improve this.<\/p>\n<p>VANEL has a &#8220;Better Recruitment&#8221; workshop being planned soon, so if your charity or committee is interested in this topic please do get in touch.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Technology for Trustees&#8221; training session scheduled for Friday 19th May has been postponed. We&#8217;ll reschedule, but this course, like some of our other trustee, governance and leadership development courses will also be available online shortly, so if you&#8217;re interested in how your board can better take advantage of technology then let me know &amp; either the rescheduled course or the online version may be useful to you.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>Finally, a reminder about our &#8220;Induction and Refresher Training for Trustees&#8221;.
