Complemented by our monthly &#8220;View from the Top&#8221; e-newsletter (Trustee Network members only), our &#8220;aboutgovernance&#8221; online discussion space for leaders and trustees and our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/aboutgovernance\">@aboutgovernance<\/a> Twitter feed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Reminder from last week: latest <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.ncvo.org.uk\/2017\/01\/25\/governance-round-up-january-2017\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Governance Round-up&#8221; from NCVO is out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/trustees\/training-and-support\/induction-and-refresher-training\/\" target=\"_blank\">Induction and Refresher Training for Trustees<\/a>\u201d<\/strong> \u2013 a VANEL training session for newer trustees is on <strong>Wednesday 8th March<\/strong> and places are still available. From 3pm-5pm at VANEL offices, Grimsby. \u00a310pp (\u00a315pp for non-members)<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cTechnology for Trustees\u201d<\/strong>. In this increasingly digital world, what do trustees need to know and how can they tackle the better use of technology for their organisations? <span class=\"__postbox-detected-content __postbox-detected-date\"><strong>Friday 10th March<\/strong>,<\/span> 10am-11.30am, \u00a35pp (\u00a310pp non-members)<\/p>\n<p>For either of these training sessions, or to discuss bespoke governance or trusteeship training for your board or committee, just contact me (Karl) to discuss.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opportunities required<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Via our Reaching Communities &#8220;IGNITE&#8221; programme we have quite a few younger people who are seeking opportunities to get more actively involved in charity leadership or governance.\u00a0 We know of a few younger people who have just become charity trustees or committee members, and recently we had one younger person sit in and shadow a couple of local board meetings to help them learn more.<\/p>\n<p>If your charity is interested in engaging further with a younger person at committee\/board level, then please contact me (Karl) for a chat.\u00a0 Perhaps someone could shadow one of your meetings? Perhaps someone already on your board would like to mentor a young person as they learn more about governance?\u00a0 Perhaps you have projects that need project managing? We have younger people getting experience of running these sorts of voluntary sector projects &#8211; perhaps they could help you? Or finally, perhaps you have actual opportunities to join your board that might be open to a younger person.<\/p>\n<p>Younger people bring enthusiasm, new perspectives, often experience of technology and social media, experience of marketing and may represent a different demographic that could be of relevance to you.<\/p>\n<p>If any of this sounds relevant to you, please get in touch for a conversation. Thank you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LVC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/va\/volunteering-3\/lincolnshire-volunteer-card\/\">Lincolnshire Volunteer Card<\/a> (LVC) training is still ongoing at VANEL, so if your organisation has volunteers (including board\/committee members) who would like to participate in this six module training programme then <a href=\"http:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/va\/2017\/01\/lincolnshire-volunteer-card-subsidised-places-available\/\">find out more here<\/a> and book necessary places. If your volunteers are aged under 25 and involved in some way in leadership or are unemployed then it&#8217;s even better and the places on the course will be completely subsidised and therefore free.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The VANEL Trustee Network&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; is open to any trustee, director, committee member, manager (or interested person) in any organisation that is a Member or Friend of VANEL.\u00a0 It&#8217;s free, informal, but allows us to communicate more effectively with you about anything governance, leadership or trusteeship related.\u00a0 We also have a private online discussion website at www.vanel.org.uk\/aboutgovernance where Trustee Network members can login, ask questions (or answer them), share ideas, experiences and thoughts, get support and generally join a network of like-minded voluntary and charitable sector trustees.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to formally &#8216;join&#8217; the Trustee Network and be allocated a username and password to the &#8216;aboutgovernance&#8217; website, then please just get in touch with me as below.
