On Friday February 3rd 2017, Tony and his team will once again be braving the harsh winter elements and taking part in the YMCA&#8217;s &#8216;Sleep Easy&#8217; fundraising campaign. The campaign will see Tony sleep rough on the streets for his sixth consecutive year in an effort to raise awareness of this issue. Read on to hear Tony&#8217;s story and find out how you can get involved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Good morning<\/p>\n<p>Now when I said last year that after 5 years that I was done with this then I honestly thought I meant it &#8211; but then plans change and here I still am a sprightly sixty year-old (at least for another 10 weeks until semi-retirement) and truly overjoyed to dust off my annual e-mail yet again and say:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u201c<em>It&#8217;s January<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>\u00a0 It&#8217;s me<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>\u00a0 What else could it conceivably be (yet) again this year?\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So I am now sleeping rough\u00a0one more time (year 6) on\u00a0the night of <strong><u>Friday\u00a03<sup>rd<\/sup> February 2017<\/u><\/strong> as part of the sturdy as-ever team\u00a0from Shoreline taking part in the local YMCA&#8217;s\u00a0<em>&#8216;Sleep Easy&#8217;<\/em> awareness and fund-raising campaign on street homelessness among young people.<\/p>\n<p>With 2016\u2019s event only offering up a frankly derisible challenge of\u00a0 -1<sup>o<\/sup>c (even <em>with<\/em> wind-chill, I ask you) I\u2019m sure that we\u2019re all hoping for something much closer to the rolling average for this event of around -7<sup>0<\/sup>c to make my suffering worth the money?<\/p>\n<p>You can heap cash on me or the team by clicking<a href=\"https:\/\/secure.artezglobal.com\/registrant\/LoginRegister.aspx?eventid=44428&amp;langpref=en-CA&amp;Referrer=http%3a%2f%2fvanel.org.uk%2fva%2fwp-admin%2fpost-new.php\"> here<\/a>, and while this is the preferred method of payment we\u2019re not too proud to accept cash or cheques here at Shoreline if you wish, and the latter should be made payable to: <em>YMCA Humber <\/em><\/p>\n<p>This year we have also again partnered with <em>Just Giving<\/em> and <em>Vodafone<\/em> to provide a text donation service: Just text <strong>SLPY17 \u00a3<\/strong><em>XX<\/em> (the amount you wish to donate) to <strong>70070 <\/strong>to make a direct donation.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to support us we would be very grateful for anything received, but we&#8217;re also equally grateful (well almost) for simply any interest that this generates in this\u00a0important issue.
