{"id":12065,"date":"2016-09-15T10:12:57","date_gmt":"2016-09-15T09:12:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/va\/?p=12065"},"modified":"2016-09-19T11:05:18","modified_gmt":"2016-09-19T10:05:18","slug":"the-armed-man-at-grimsby-central-hall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/vanel.org.uk\/va\/2016\/09\/the-armed-man-at-grimsby-central-hall\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;The Armed Man&#8217; at Grimsby Central Hall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Grimsby Philharmonic Society open their 165th Season with the popular &#8216;&#8221;The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace&#8221; by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins at Grimsby Central Hall on Saturday 15th October 2016 at 7:30pm.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"_4n-j fsl\">Commissioned for the millennium by Britain&#8217;s Royal Armouries and dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis, this work by Karl Jenkins is a contemporary example of a mass based on the 15th century French song L&#8217;homme arm\u00e9 (The Armed Man). Set within the framework of the Christian mass, &#8216;The Armed Man&#8217; is a major choral work which uses both sacred and secular texts. It is a powerful and compelling account of the descent into, and terrible consequences of war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;The Phil&#8217; will be conducted by their chorus master, the award winning Susan Hollingworth. They will be joined by soloist Clare Wheat and accompanied by the Grimsby Philharmonic Ensemble.<\/p>\n<p>It promises to be a fabulous evening, supporting both the choir and the Central Hall.
