Ignite: ‘Helping Young People To Help Each Other To Lead Their Communities’<\/strong><\/p>\n

VANEL are delighted to announce that their newest \u2018Reaching Communities\u2019 programme, \u201cIgnite\u201d, is now in full swing. The programme which is funded by the National Lottery\u2019s Big Lottery Fund, is a three year community development programme targeted at young people between the ages of 16 and 30-years-old. The “Ignite” programme aims to motivate and encourage young people to become volunteers and take a leading role in their communities through the creation and expansion of community projects.<\/p>\n

The team is comprised of Youth Leadership Manager Jenny Hodson and Youth Leadership Worker\u2019s Victoria Russell and Lisa Anderson. Prior to the \u201cIgnite\u201d programme Jenny was the manager of VANEL\u2019s original \u2018Reaching Communities\u2019 programme, \u201cEnfuse\u201d, which ran for a period of three years from 2013 until 2016. Victoria has been with us since the start of August and Lisa joined us at the beginning of this week after working out her notice as a Youth Ranger for East Lindsey Council. Together, Jenny, Victoria and Lisa will be recruiting four final year university students from within North East Lincolnshire, to work as Youth Leadership Mentors for the \u201cIgnite\u201d programme.<\/p>\n

Once the four posts have been filled, the Youth Leadership Team will be encouraging young people from around North East Lincolnshire to get involved in the programme and become volunteers. The volunteers will have the opportunity to plan, develop and implement a project of their choosing which benefits their community. This will enable them to become better integrated into their community, develop their leadership potential and enhance their educational and employment prospects. The Youth Leadership team will be working closely with volunteers\u2019 and their host organisations, offering advice, training and support throughout. The programme works with, compliments and builds upon our Awards for All funded \u201cYoung Leaders\u201d project running until March 2017 which is developing a peer and mentor support network for young leaders.<\/p>\n

The four positions for the role of Youth Leadership Mentor have yet to be filled and the recruitment process is underway. The closing date for applications is Friday 16th September 2016 at 5:00pm. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an assessment day and interview on the 26th and\/or 27th September. The four selected for the post of Youth Leadership Mentor will be expected to start from the week commencting Monday 3rd October 2016.<\/p>\n
