Every September, the Marine Conservation Society’s ‘Beach Watch’ brings together people from all over the country, helping and encouraging them to care for and protect their coastline.

VANEL are helping organise, support and promote a ‘Beach Watch’ litter picking event on Cleethorpes beach on Friday 16th September 2016 from 9:30am until 3:30pm at Thorpe Park car park, and are calling for volunteers to support the beach clean-up.

In 2015, a staggering 6,035 volunteers from across the country headed to the beach and collected 277,354 pieces of litter, the highest number of volunteers’ in Beach Watches’ history. This year we want to help ‘Beach Watch’ break this record yet again. We want to see as many people as possible at the event doing their bit to tidy up our coastline and protect the marine and wildlife that inhabit it.

The event also hopes to attract a number of schools from around the area and use the day as an opportunity to teach children about the importance of looking after the environment and the impacts of improper waste disposal. VANEL employee’s Victoria Russell and Helen Pickett will be supporting the event on the day, armed with black bags and litter picking equipment. Come along and help them restore the natural beauty of our coastline.

Free parking is available for volunteers and don’t forget to wear suitable clothing and with a bit of luck, sunscreen.

Beach Watch is coming to Cleethorpes as part of a joint enterprise between Keep Britain Tidy’s Beach and RiverCare team, VANEL and Anglian Water.
