It is a special year as the charity, Linkage, was established in 1976 in Lincolnshire to help learners with special needs progress from school to a more independent life.

The Diable event was set up by parent and Cleethorpes businessman, Tony Diable, to give something back to the charity where his son, Jordan, studied and remains a client. He currently attends sessions at Linkage at Quayside, the adult skills service on King Edward Street in Grimsby. This service helps adults develop greater independence and employability skills.

Mr Diable, who runs Diable Roofing, says: “We’ve loved staging this golf day over the years as it raises thousands of pounds for Linkage. Ever since Jordan studied there, we’ve been so impressed by the work of the staff at the Weelsby Campus and it’s great to give the students some real work experience as part of their curriculum.”

Student Jamie Remedios, who graduates this year from Linkage, says: “We all enjoy meeting and helping the players on Diable Golf Day, greeting them, organising the event, providing food at the halfway house, and celebrating their success. I hope many of the teams will be back to compete for this year’s title.”

Linkage Chief Executive, Valerie Waby, says: “Our courses in administration, customer service and hospitality need events like this to put our students’ skills to the test. We can’t thank Tony, his family, Cleethorpes Golf Club and the players enough for supporting our work in Lincolnshire.”

The day will involve teams of four, any combination of men and women, competing to win team prizes and individual prizes for “nearest the pin” on the 11th hole and “longest drive” on the 1st Gents and 16th Ladies. The entry fee is £120 per team of four and includes a free “half-way house” and supper. In addition, there is the opportunity to win £10,000 on the 17th hole for any of the competitors achieving a hole in one.

Local companies and individuals are invited to sponsor a tee or a green. For an entry form or for details of how to sponsor a tee (£50) or green (£25), please contact Gill Curwen on 01472 372301, email gill.curwen@linkage.org.uk.

Entry forms can also be downloaded from www.linkage.org.uk and sent to Gill Curwen, Linkage College, Weelsby Campus, Weelsby Road, Grimsby, DN32 9RU.
