I would like to invite you to an Interfaith dialogue event \u2013 on the 30th of January, to be held in Oasis Academy Wintringham, Weelsby Avenue, Grimsby in Room F2. I expect the discussion to run between 6pm and 8pm.<\/p>\n
The subject for discussion is \u2018People of the book \u2013 the place of sacred scriptures in faith.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n I am hoping that this discussion will allow us to understand the way that different faiths understand the written word, particularly as represented in their scriptures, and the way that this impacts upon their beliefs.<\/p>\n The point of dialogue and discussion is not that we should all end up agreeing with one another, but that we should come to a better understanding of each other\u2019s conviction and point of view.<\/p>\n The goal of interfaith dialogue specifically is not that we should end up watering down, or changing our own beliefs, but that we should better understand those of others. In doing this, we often realise that we have a great deal in common, even if we differ in key points of belief. It is by developing this understanding that we can become friends, and work together for the betterment of our communities.<\/p>\n I hope that you will feel able to join us for this discussion, our last dialogue, which brought together a large number of individuals from the Christian and Muslim communities in the area was a great success, and formed the basis for what will \u2013 I hope \u2013 be an ongoing process of conversation locally between those two faiths.<\/p>\n Please note that these events are open to all, and nobody should feel excluded from any dialogue, regardless of their faith or lack of it.
