Lincolnshire Remembers: Britten’s War Requiem
At Lincoln Cathedral on November 3rd, 2018
Over 350 singers from choirs throughout Greater Lincolnshire will join together to perform this Benjamin Britten masterpiece, one of the greatest works of the 20th Century, in Lincoln Cathedral in 2018.
This is Lincolnshire Remembers, a tribute to the fallen for the final year of the First World War Centenary commemorations.
Singers from Lincoln Choral Society, Grimsby’s Philharmonic Choir, Scunthorpe and District Choral Society, Louth Choral Society and Gainsborough Choral Society will be joined by The Lincoln Cathedral Choristers.
The large resources needed for this concert mean that there will be three conductors and two orchestras involved in its production.
The Music Director for the concert is Mark Wilde, Lincoln Choral Society Music Director. The other conductors involved are Louth Choral Society Music Director Allan Smith and Lincoln Cathedral Music Director Aric Prentice, who will direct the Cathedral Choristers.
Under the auspices of founder Malcolm Goodman MBE, ARCM, Lincolnshire Chamber Orchestra augmented with extra professional instrumentalists will provide the musicians for this work.
We have secured award winning soloists for the occasion: internationally acclaimed dramatic soprano, Rachel Nicholls; Alessandro Fisher, tenor, winner of the 2016 Kathleen Ferrier Award, and Julien Van Mellaerts, baritone, winner of the 2017 Wigmore Hall / Kohn Foundation International Song Competition, and the 2017 Kathleen Ferrier Award.
This will be a stirring once in a lifetime event with record numbers of both singers and instrumentalists in the Cathedral. The commemoration will also be enhanced by the projection of the names of the fallen on the Nave ceiling. Names of the fallen are currently being collected for this purpose. In the first instance, message the dedicated Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/WarRequiem2018// with further information from your own family on this.
