Pride of Plate event in Cleethorpes raising money by eating vegan cake!
Last weekend saw the second run of Mica’s Pride of Plate cake bake off event at Moon on the Water in Cleethorpes.
In 2017 Mica organised the first of these charity fundraising events and it was a great success. So the event was rerun – this time to raise funds for Groundwork – a national organisation for which Mica is a local ambassador.
It was a Vegan Cake bake off competition, and although entries were thin on the ground, everyone attending the event enjoyed themselves, winners were selected, cake was eaten and money was raised.
Entries included a banana loaf cake, pineapple upside down cake, mocha brownies and choc brownies. All of course were Vegan and more than one person asked for a recipe!
Many visitors were popping into Moon on the Water for a cuppa after a chilly litter picking event on the beach, so there were plenty of people around. For a simple event Mica still managed to raise nearly £40 to go towards Groundwork (https://www.groundwork.org.uk/).
The event was again successful so Mica is planning to run these regularly now, so keep an eye out for future dates.
This is a great example of a young person being mentored through the VANEL IGNITE programme to put their ideas, projects, fundraisers and initiatives into practice. Mica was also raising awareness of her Project V programme and continues to work closely with our IGNITE staff on her ideas.
