We’re a charity taking advantage of the benefits technology can bring to the work we do.
And we share our IT and web skills and experience with others.
We’re a local support organisation (an ‘infrastructure’ body) based in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire and a charity ourselves.
The IT Network was started by Karl Elliott as a means of helping with the sustainability of local non-profit organisations through effective use of technology.

Our aims
Our communities, our society and individuals themselves, benefit from the services that a huge number of charities, voluntary groups and social enterprises provide. Ensuring that those non-profit organisations continue to survive, can grow and expand their services and can deliver good quality and far-reaching benefits into the communities they serve is a key focus on the work VANEL undertakes.
Back in 2010, I realised that local non-profit groups were failing to take advantage of technology and in particular the internet, and in fact in many cases were actually being hampered by technological problems. Although factors such as funding played a part, primarily the issues were (are) around skills, knowledge, expertise and support. Essentially most organisations don’t actually know what they don’t know about IT and even if they do know, they don’t get the support they need to move forward.
So the IT Supporters Network was born. Essentially unfunded, the Network is a way of VANEL supporting local groups with their technological issues by cascading support and learning to the people in those groups who are dealing with the IT themselves.
So we run training and networks, provide resources and knowledge, act to signpost to other support and generally invent services and initiatives which can tackle IT problems within non-profit organisations. You can read about our projects here.
Our aim is simple – help organisations use technology to either do things better or to do better things.
Some Thanks
We receive no direct funding to manage and run the IT Supporters Network. We rely on income from consultancy work, maintenance contracts, training fees and a bit of sponsorship. So thanks to all our partners and supporters in all their forms.
( If you’d like to sponsor us in some way please contact me! )
Currently the Fundraising Plus Project is sponsoring our WebClub meetings and our Quarterly Networking meetings – Thank you.
