Weeknotes 9 Jan
Hello All,
Welcome to 2012 and to our first Monday e-newsletter from the VANEL IT Supprters Network.
This year we continue to run with our successful WebClub, our WordPress Masterclassses, the “Cooking up a website” briefings and more.
We’re also changing the way we provide IT Health Checks and have introduced online discussion boards to help you get the IT answers you need.
Also new this year are our “Digital World” briefings and we’re continually looking for new ways of providing you with information and support related to IT, websites and technology.
Don’t forget that details of anything and everything the Network is doing can always be found on our new-look “IT Matters” blog and website here.
You can read my New Year update on what is new on the blog here.
Upcoming dates
WebClub restarts this week – Tue 10 Jan
The next session of WebClub will be part of the Quarterly Networking meeting on 25 Jan – more details soon.
We have a “Cooking up a website” briefing on 20 Jan
All dates for more events and training can always be found on the website homepage.
IT Support
Our new IT discussion forums are now live on the website and I’ll be rolling out details soon so that you can register on the website for free and start getting involved in the discussions.
2012 is Code Year
Being able to understand or code in a computer programming language is a useful skill. Obviously if you know your stuff you’ve got a skill and job prospects! But for anyone working with IT and websites, learning some principles of programming gives you useful skills – in structure, logic, creativity, reasoning etc. Knowing how a programming language works helps you understand computers and websites better. So why not learn a few programming skills this year?
2012 has been labelled Code Year (here) and you can sign up for free, step-by-step courses in Javascript (the basis of most websites) here.
I’ll be pushing and supporting this during 2012 so if you want to take some first programming steps let me know or keep an eye on the blog.
That’s it for this week – more soon.
Hopefully see you at an event soon – keep in touch if you have IT issues we might be able to help you with.
Regards,
Karl
